Biography

At 9 november 1985 Sander Bisseling came to life in Nijmegen and grew up in Wijchen. The first years of his life were the same as all the boys of that age. But when Sander discovered a BMX bike the big journey started. In 1991 at the age of 4, Sander rode his first laps on a BMX track and that was the start of a beautiful career with ups and downs.

While his friends played football, Sander was riding his bike with the big boys at the track and found a second family. After 1,5 year Sander’s brother started riding the BMX bike as well and that made it easy for mum and dad, 2 boys who compete in the same sport.

The first years of his career Sander practice 2 hours a week and made fun in the weekend at some local and national races. Bisseling managed himself always in the top 8 at national races but once a year at the European Championships it was a different story. While the years passed Sander practiced a bit more and slowly he fined the way to the top.

In 1999 Sander won his first national title and raced his first European final. Teams came by and Sander rode different bikes in his career and claimed more and more results, which brought him a spot in the Dutch National team in 2003. In that same year Bisseling finished 3th at the UCI BMX world Championships while he claimed two national titles that year.

In 2005 a hard crash made almost an end of his career when he crashed on the gate and injured his liver. After different surgeries and more then six months of hospital visits Sander made his comeback on the BMX tracks. Not stronger but with more motivation then ever and at the Europeans in 2006 Sander claimed his first ever European title at the Elite-Cruiser.

In November 2006 a dream came true, Sander got his first fulltime contract and that means a big change in his life. BMX became serious business and from then Sander travelled around the globe as a Professional BMX racer.

In 2008 BMX made his debut at the Beijing Olympic Games, Sander missed a nomination by a couple of points. The Dutch national television invited Sander for commentary by world’s biggest BMX event, the Olympic games.

2009 was a year with ups and downs, while the Europeans starts to be a disaster the UCI BMX world Cups went well. With 2 final places at the World Cups and a silver medal at the UCI BMX worlds Cruiser.

After a decent winter with trainingscamps in South-Africa, France and California the 2010 season kicked off painfully in Madrid Spain. But slowly things went better and Sander found the rhythm he needed during the season. The BMX Worlds was the biggest event of the year and worked out well. A 13th place in elite-men class with the 20 inch bike and a 4th place at 24 inch bike was respectable after hard work.

Sander is looking forward to the new season…
